I looked at her dancing around so beautifully in the garden. This was her usual routine when something good happened in school.
Finally it was my turn to see this, I loved seeing her dance, smile and sing.
She took two of my branches in her arms and danced a litte.
“Guess what boo?! I just joined this new glee club in school, I am finally a star! No more backvocals for Santana Lopez! Oh no, front stage baby! “
She danced more, I hadn’t seen her that happy since she got named captain of the Cheerios.
“That´s great Santana. I always knew you were a star.” My branches surrounded her like a hug and she just let go and kind of fell behind in to our weird little hug.
We had learned dealing with those obstacles and we functioned perfectly together. I counted down the hours until I could see her again. When she went to school, meet up with her friends, competitions or to sleep she always had a little part of me with her.
A small branch which had fallen off one day when we hugged for the first time, she still kept it.
She left my embrace and went to get the water pot and drizzled over me. I loved it, this was her way to show affection, in Lima Heights there wasn’t much room to have nice things so she took care of me.
I love her for that. Actually… I love her for so much more. She is everything a shrub could wish for! She is perfect.
“I love you shrub” She put the water pot down and smiled at me, that genuine smile that she doesn’t show unless performing usually.
“I love you Santana. I love you so much, please… never leave me.” She took one of my lower branches in her hand as she lay on the grass next to me.
“What makes you say that Shrub? Remember? You and me forever and ever. We made that promise.”
I sighed a little. “ I know Santana. I just feel… I just feel, that one day you will actually be a big superstar and leave Lima Heights and go to LA! …and I will still be here. In your parents garden in Lima Height.”
She stood up and hugged me. “ Boo, that will never happen, ofcourse I will go to LA and be super famous, but you always believed in me! Even when no one did. So i´ll take you with me to LA. Shrub you´ll get to see more then this poor excuse of an garden in Lima Heights, I promise.”
Then she kissed one of the leaves and I felt a warm feeling down in the roots.
She suddenly ran inside and back outside with her schoolbag. “I have homework, couch Sylvester is breathing down my neck about passing math.” I chuckled at her as she pulled out her school stuff and sat down against me.
“Need some help Santana?” She just nodded as she read through the instructions. I couldn’t control myself and stroke a little bit over her hair as I read through her mathhomework
She didn’t seem to mind.
This is what I loved. That we could just spend all day together, I wish that she didn’t have to go inside when the night time came. I felt so alone then.
But I shook those thoughts off me and continued to focus on the present. Where it´s just me, Santana and math.
She closed her homework and sighed. “I don’t get it boo. Let´s just hope that you got right.” She smiled at me and I let one of my leaves stroke her lips. She leaned back and sang a little tune while she fell asleep. I love moments like these.
